Water and You(th)
The youth exchange about water took place in Karviná in June. We hosted 24 participants from four countries – Turkey, Malta, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
Why water?
Water is a key and irreplaceable resource for all EU countries. It plays a vital role in sustaining life, protecting public health and economic activities. Whether it is agriculture, industry, households or tourism, water is at the heart of many sectors that contribute to the region's prosperity.
It is essential for agricultural irrigation, food production and the safety of millions of citizens. Industries rely on it for manufacturing processes, energy production and cooling systems, supporting economic growth and job opportunities. Access to clean drinking water is a basic human right and a key factor for public health and well-being.
Water also supports the tourism industry, which is an important part of the European economy. In addition to economic benefits, it is essential for environmental protection – healthy aquatic ecosystems maintain biodiversity and ecological balance. Water resources are also key in the fight against climate change and its consequences, such as prolonged droughts and intense rainfall.
The objectives of the project were:
- To raise awareness of climate change, the value of water and their interrelationship among participants from four countries.
- To acquaint participants with the importance of water as a precious resource in everyday life and in diplomacy.
- Improve participants' skills in water management and reduce water wastage.
- Through a campaign on social networks, to inform the wider public about the importance of water, climate risks and efficient water management.
- Promote soft skills of participants such as teamwork, multicultural communication and leadership.
- Strengthen the European identity and break down stereotypes about the participating countries.
- Promote citizen participation in sustainability, democracy and climate change.
- Promote opportunities for youth participation in the Erasmus+ program.
